Diet, Exercise, Fasting, Meditation, Breathwork: It All Matters
When I first entered into the world of alternative healing, I couldn’t understand why it was considered ‘alternative.’ Secondarily, I couldn’t understand why everyone in the industry was an expert at one or two of these modalities to heal. Sure, we’re only human and boiling the ocean on your own is probably a foolish effort, but health is multifactorial.
Diet Isn’t Everything
I founded Polarity Health primarily because my area of expertise is in microbial/gut health as it pertains to nutritional sciences; both of which branch into epidemiology as a whole. Though since gaining a relative mastery of these sciences, I’ve since moved to other subjects like endocrinology, ionomics, kinesiology, respiration mechanics, energy medicine, meditation practices, etc.
Having a general understanding of various healing modalities has opened my eyes to the reality of just how immensely multifactorial the path to achieving optimal health is. With this knowledge I created a little acronym called ‘DREAMBELLS’ that encapsulates the healing modalities that matter to us at Gut Goals.
DREAMBELLS
Diet Matters
The majority of autoimmune diseases related to the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) can be significantly supported by dietary interventions. Anecdotal evidence suggests that adopting a zero-carb diet may help alleviate systemic issues such as Lyme disease, hormonal imbalances like PCOS, and nervous system disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis.
While diet forms the cornerstone of health, it’s not the only factor. At Polarity Health, we leverage dietary adjustments to initiate a physiological transformation, building health from the ground up. Remarkably, some of our clients have reported not only physical but also spiritual enhancements during this process.
Relationships Matter
Certainly, our relationships with family, friends, and even coworkers play a vital role in our overall health. How we interact with others can impact our endogenous (produced from within) hormone levels significantly. Neglecting these social connections may hinder optimal health.
Neurotransmitters (hormones) like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin are essential for our well-being, regulating crucial functions within the body. Human interactions can profoundly influence the abundance of these hormones, particularly oxytocin, often referred to as the ‘love hormone.’
Exercise Matters
It’s evident that physical fitness plays a crucial role in health, especially considering that biomarkers for exercise, such as those seen in weight lifting, are similar to those found during fasting.
Physical fitness is so vital to health that we’ve witnessed individuals maintain their well-being with seemingly average diets and lifestyles, solely because of an exceptional exercise routine. This phenomenon extends to individuals well into their 70s.
Abstinence Matters
I understand your initial thought, but this isn’t solely about religion; it’s more about the principle of ‘all things in moderation.’ Human nature often tends towards excess in various aspects of life. Abstaining from certain foods, bad habits, or toxic relationships can be incredibly healing.
Fasting, in essence, is an act of abstinence. Scientific research indicates that fasting can lead to remarkable outcomes such as the regeneration of the immune system and the regeneration of stem cells.
Meditation Matters
Extensive research supports the practice of meditation and its healing benefits. Meditation positively impacts every process in the body, including digestion.
Some individuals are exceptionally skilled at meditation, to the point where they can significantly reduce chronic pain. This phenomenon is often referred to as ‘pain meditation.’
Breathwork Matters
Slow breathing techniques act to enhance autonomic, cerebral and psychological flexibility in a scenario of mutual interactions: we found evidence of links between parasympathetic activity (increased HRV and LF power), CNS activities (increased EEG alpha power and decreased EEG theta power) related to emotional control and psychological well-being in healthy subjects.

At Polarity Health, we encourage intentional breathing with an emphasis on breathing through the nostrils to produce more nitric oxide, which is imperative for great circulatory system health.
Environment Matters
Mycotoxins, heavy metals, and various chemicals present in the air, as well as in our clothes and surroundings, can enter our bodies, causing a multitude of health issues. This is why Gut Goals strongly advocates for spending time in nature whenever possible.
Connecting with our primal selves away from environmental pollutants is essential for optimal health. One excellent way to harness the healing power of the environment is through ‘earthing.’ This involves using the Earth’s surface electrons to stimulate lymphatic activity, particularly at the lymph nodes in our feet.
Lifestyle Matters
From how we manage stress to how we allocate our time each day, every decision we make is crucial for achieving optimal health.
In today’s fast-paced world, many business professionals excel in time management and stress handling out of necessity. Mastering these skills can profoundly impact one’s life because effective time management is applicable in every aspect, while our ability to handle stress directly influences our health. Interestingly, it’s been found that we absorb fewer nutrients from our food when we’re stressed!
Learning Matters
At Polarity Health, our goal is to empower individuals to take control of their own health, eventually becoming self-sufficient and no longer reliant on external support. We provide comprehensive education to help people understand their unique health situations, enabling them to manage or even fully remediate them over time.
In life, it’s crucial to maintain an open mind and to continue learning. Science constantly evolves based on new findings. If health professionals didn’t keep up with these developments, they would be promoting outdated science that lacks validity.
Spirituality Matters
Regardless of one’s belief in a higher power or their use of manifestation techniques, spiritual health is undeniably important.
Throughout the world, there are countless accounts of miraculous healings and inexplicable personal experiences where people have prayed or meditated, directing their spiritual energy towards effecting change with remarkable success.
However, just as diet isn’t the sole determinant of health, spirituality alone isn’t either. While many miraculous events are attributed to powerful spirituality, there are also numerous instances where individuals rely solely on faith, disregarding other principles of health, only to find themselves disappointed in the end.
Conclusion
Every aspect of the DREAMBELLS principles contributes to optimal health. While people often fixate on one or two of these principles, we always recommend incorporating the majority of them to some extent.
While it may seem overwhelming, integrating these principles into your life doesn’t have to be taxing, especially when done strategically. Taking baby steps is key to making lasting changes and achieving optimal health.
